2 Tips To Increase Blog Traffic

March 14th, 2008 by Administrator

Hi,

Remember the 3 pillars of an Internet business?

1. A product that sells
2. Good sales and marketing collateral (aka copywriting)
3. Eyeballs (aka traffic)

Today let me share a couple of tips about how to increase blog traffic with keyword research.

What would it be like if you could know what people are searching for ‘before’ and ‘after’ arriving to your blog? Imagine how much easier you could make it for visitors to use your site, which in turn can translate into you making more money online.

My first tip addresses how to know what people are looking for before they reach your blog. In other words, how to find out what keywords visitors are plugging into search engines like Google, Yahoo! and MSN.

One of my favorite tools to capture and report on this information is Google Analytics. It’s free, it’s fast, and very powerful.

Forget using static Web stats reports from your Internet service provider, slogging through log files, or simple scripts that just report on keywords. These solutions might be good for the short term, but for the long term, you want a system that will capture, store and analyze all that historical data… a system like Google Analytics, which is free.

And here’s my second tip… which will help you analyze what visitors are searching for after they are already on your blog (when they use your search box).

The solution here is also simple. Use a nifty WordPress plugin called Search Meter.

If you have a search box on your blog, Search Meter will automagically record what your visitors are searching for and it will also report whether your blog has any results that meet your visitors’ search criteria. Search Meter’s admin interface will show you what visitors have been searching for in the last couple of days and in the last week or month.

Now, when you’ve got Google Analytics and Search Meter up and running on your blog, here’s what to do next:

Create more content on those topics to give visitors more of what they want.

Finally, give the search engines some time, and they’ll notice the new content you published on your blog, and soon enough you’ll start getting even more traffic. And not just any old traffic… but rather, more targeted and long-tail traffic.

And before I forget, when you’re ready to unleash the power of Google Analytics on your Internet business, get my Google Analytics Tutorial Vol 1 DVD. I break it down for you step-by-step.

Stay tuned for other tips on how to increase blog traffic.

Ciao!

Taylor

Nice post Taylor! Some great info there. Google analytics is a great resource and certainly a great way to keep on top of things. As a result, you can get some great ideas for blog posts using G.A. as well. Targeted, plus interesting subjects for your visitors.

I’ve never tried SearchMeter. Sounds very cool. I’m off to check out this plug-in. Thanks again for such a quality post.
    :)

P.S. Is that you in the sidebar? Cool pic! 8)
