Hi,
Think of the last time you were in a store and you thought “Wow, what a great idea, why didn’t I think of that?”
It’s just as easy to have similar experiences online.
Now, do you wonder how the businesses behind these ideas come up with those perfect new products or services?
Let me share a couple of ways…
First, you can can study your customers’ behavior. For example, consider jam-and-jelly king J.M. Smucker’s introduction of the “Uncrustables.” Most parents I’ve heard of who have tried them are hooked. And if you don’t know Uncrustables, it’s elegantly simple… they’re packaged peanut-butter-and-jelly sandwiches on crustless white bread. You have a choice of grape jelly or strawberry jam. And they come frozen, perfect for harried parents.
How did J.M. Smucker pull it off? It dug deeper. And its innovation is rewarded.
If you have an Internet business, one way to look at customer behavior online is to use Google Analytics. I teach you how to to this in my Google Analytics Tutorial DVD.
A different but related highly effective habit of successful marketers is to ask your customers what they want.
Oddly, most businesses shy away from asking their customers what they want. A business might avoid asking its customers what they want out of fear… fear that its customers will want something different than what the company already wants to create, fear of looking silly because it can’t figure out what its customers want without asking them, fear of then having to give customers what they want, and so on.
The maverick business has no such fear. The maverick business is very tuned into what customers want and desire.
If you have a list and are struggling to figure out what kind of offer to make, this will be music to your ears…
I’m launching a product soon that will help you figure out how to create high-value info products, so make sure you’ve subscribed to my blog announcement list to be notified.
