Google Supplementary Results Roulette?

May 4th, 2007 by Administrator

One of my old sites got indexed in Google within 21 hours. All it took was couple of clicks, and we are not talking about the submit button on the add URL to Google page (that’s another story for another time).

You can imagine how happy I was when I found this out. But what surprised me even more was my site also go thrown into the Google Supplementary Results index!

Supplementary results usually show in the search index after the normal results.

…So was being in Google’s Supplementary Results going to kill my traffic? I wondered.

A few searches later I learned that even Aaron Wall, author of the popular SEO Book, noticed Google also dumped a better part of his site into Supplementary Results.

A little more digging and I discovered a dozen or so reasons why pages might go into supplemental results.

And the reason that really stood out was the one about duplicate content, which I figured had me pegged… But not because I actually had duplicate content. Rather, because Google saw me as having duplicate content!
