Hi,
There are similarities between growing a successful Internet business and raising kids.
Sometimes we are unaware of how quickly our kids grow up until something brings that to our attention.
To receive all the joy that children can add to your life, you must learn to be in each moment with them. When you do this, you share their experience and their discovery. You become that much more a part of their life as they become of yours.
With all the demands on our time and with all our various roles and responsibilities, it is quite common, however, for people not to be in each moment with their kids. So while you might be there physically, for example in the kitchen, at a birthday party, or at a graduation, your mind is elsewhere… pondering distracting thoughts like what groceries to buy, the bills on your desk, or how you need to wash your car.
Fast-forward ten years. Imagine looking at your child, only now he’s much different. You’re surprised. You are flooded with confusing thoughts and emotions. How did that happen? Where did the time go?
If you don’t change something, you could have the same experience with your Internet business. As in you could wake up one day and wonder, after all this time, why the heck you still can’t make money online.
There are a couple of things you can do to help prevent this from happening.
The first tip is to stay focused. In other words, keep dividing your attention down to a minimum. Dividing attention impairs performance.
Second, track your projects.
You see, we each only have so much time in a day. If you do not keep track of your different projects, it will be hard to:
a) Know where you stand and figure out what’s keeping you from achieving your goals.
This is the “big one.” Like with your kids growing up and you maybe not realizing it, if you don’t keep a list of your projects visible at all times and make it a habit to review them and update them, then even if you have the best “intentions” of doing something or accomplishing it, you might “wake up” one day 5 years later in drunken stupor and blame the world for your failures rather than realizing you were the culprit, because you didn’t keep a list of your projects, so you kept piling new things on, leaving unfinished business everywhere, further dividing your attention across lots of other projects, pushing your dream projects further and further out.
b) Prioritize projects — so that you can get the most important ones done first.
c) Figure out which projects you’ve let fall off your radar inadvertently so you can scoop them back up.
d) Know when you can no longer take on any more projects without getting extra help.
e) Get anything done, because you will be so spread out.
If you’re having a tough time focusing or figuring out what’s important, ask questions.
Ciao!
