Hi,
Many moons ago friends of mine started their summer job search. I watched as they got more and more stressed trying to find legitimate jobs. Some who were desperate for real work experience finally settled on unpaid summer internships.
As Summer progressed, I remember a couple individuals in particular going on and on about how boring their internships were and how all they were doing was menial tasks like making copies and getting people coffee. Some real work experience that was!
Of course not all internships are as unstructured and unpaid as the ones my friends experienced. And not all internships should be seen as a last resort. Meaning there are lots of reasons to consider some unpaid internships, including that you will get valuable insights into an industry and you will learn the ropes within a specific type of business.
For example, an intern program I created a while back was open to students of local universities. In this specific internship, students’ work was monitored and graded by a real faculty member. Students were interested in the work because it was within the field of their specialty. Also, interns were paid a stipend.
Another example is my Internet business internship, where you get specific Internet business-related assignments that ultimately result in you having more focus and direction with your own ventures.
You wouldn’t necessarily know from my intern program’s home page that my intern program does pay. And I like it that way… Mentioning that it’s an unpaid internship helps to screen out time-wasters and tire-kickers who have no desire to learn how to build a sustainable online business.
If you want to learn useful and transferable skills to help make your own internet business thrive, I strongly recommend you sign up now. And even if you don’t have an online business yet, the intern program will renew your focus and give you additional incentive to take action.
